Here are some photos from our recent trip to Thailand. We flew from Kansai International Airport to Bangkok and then immediately to Krabi. We spent one day in Krabi and then caught the ferry to Koh Lanta, an island. We spent five days there. The weather was very hot, so we only went outside in the morning and the evening. I read a lot and drank lots of beer.
For two days we rented a car and drove around the island to the picturesque Old Town and also to a ‘monkey farm’ (a method of getting money from tourists, but the baby monkeys were very cute!). Then we made our way to Bangkok, where I met three of my friends including Kojiro, who I use to live with in Bangkok. He has a son, Genjiro, who you can see in the pictures.
We had a fun trip but Akari got sick in Bangkok so we were a little worried. Travelling is awesome!
Nine years ago I lived in Thailand. On Friday I will be returning with my wife and daughter for a brief vacation. We will have five days on an island called Ko Lanta. Then we will fly up to Bangkok and meet some of my friends there. Since I came to Japan six years ago I have been to England two times. But England isn’t very exciting for me. This trip feels like my first real vacation for six years! I am not going to do any sightseeing – I will be reading books, drinking beer, eating, and sleeping a lot.
Today was my last day of classes at KGS. I am very sad to be leaving. Thank you all for being such good students this year (well, most of you, ha ha). I hope you all have happy futures. Good luck with your tests and life in general. I will try to update my blog more often this year, so please feel welcome to visit my website and leave a comment. I will always be very happy to hear from you.
I will be in school on Monday for the last time, by the way.
My week was busy. I worked six days. I often bring a lot of my preparation home with me and try to do it in the evening, but I have decided to change this. From now on, I will do all of my teaching-related work in school, because I can work much more efficiently at school. If I can go to work one hour early each day I think I can probably save two hours of free time in the evenings.
The high point of the week: I went for an Indian on Saturday night.
I do not usually pay much attention to the change of seasons, but this year Autumn has been very pleasant, and a welcome change from the stifling heat of the summer. The weather has been fantastic: beautiful clear days and breezy nights (although it is raining today).
There are several things it is more pleasant to do in Autumn than in the summer:
sleep
go for walks
cycle to work
teach
However, summer is better for my body – sweating is healthy, I think. I probably put on weight in the Autumn.
I think this video is amazing. I have no interest in street biking and I am too old to learn things like this but I admire the dedication that it must take to achieve such a high level of skill.
This is a video from youtube. In the video a cat – called Nora – plays the piano. This is not a trick that she was taught, but something that she does naturally from time to time. As a pianist I find this video amusing because Nora seems to pay very careful attention to the sound that she is producing as she plays. In fact I think Nora listens to her tone more carefully than many professional pianists. I think many pianists – including amateurs like me – can learn something by watching Nora play the piano!
